Monster Hunter Wilds – Everything we know so far

Sprawling monsters in the “Ancient Forest” took us by surprise six years ago when Monster Hunter Worlds was released worldwide. The game was such a success that Capcom, the studio behind it, had to go back to the drawing board to bring refreshing updates to a new fanbase.

Six years, and finally, we are getting an update in the form of Monster Hunter Wilds. The latest title is set to be released in January 2025; sure enough, we can’t contain the excitement.

There are new characters, monsters, and the beautiful scarlet forest, which was shown during the Gamescom opening night live reveal.

Monster Hunter Wilds Story – The story introduces new live-action

Capcom’s latest instalment of the Monster Hunter series, Monster Hunter Wilds, has all but been released, but the gameplay trailers have shown us what to expect with this latest update. The early trailers reveal a slew of updates to Hunting, which is now set in a new living world. The player, in the form of the Hunter, ventures deep into what is now called the Forbidden Lands.

The immersive take on inside what is now called a Living World, which is short for saying the Characters and elements in the world will behave more lifelike than in the previous versions.

Monster Hunter Wilds Characters – Same Hunter with new allies

You play as a Hunter of the Forbidden Lands Research Commission assigned to investigate the unexplored regions. The hunter has new allies and characters to support in this journey.

Palico – Do not go with the looks; Palico is the player’s hunting and support partner. The cat-like creature can provide invaluable support during your quest.

Alma – The Hunter’s handler, managing your quests and providing information and permissions.

Gemma – There is a right weapon for every battle and one that can ensure the fate of the universe. Gemma is the weapon and armor specialist supporting the hunter in this game.

Nata, Olivia, Athos – These characters accompany you on your journey and help you in one way or another.

All of these gather and disperse from Base Camp, where each quest is mapped. There are different base camps in other locales.

Monster Hunter Wilds Weapons – Hunter’s best friend, a choice of weapons

Capcom has made significant changes to the Hunting in the latest update. The new hunting introduces new moves, different weapons, and different types of equipment, and thanks to the live world setting, interacting with the world is better than before. Staying true to the series, Capcom will also bring the weapons from before.

Great Sword – As the name says, it’s a sword that packs a punch when it comes to hunting. Using the blade can be a bit slow; otherwise, it’s a great choice for attacking and guarding. One more feature of the sword is adaptability. With the new environment and highly active monsters, we will have to wait to see this adaptability in action.

Long Sword – A swift weapon of choice and one that could ensure maximum damage thanks to Spirit Gauge. Attacks in a certain way with this sword will juice up the Spirit Gauge. And once the gauge reaches red, the damage is maximized.

Sword & Shield – Like the sword fights, as the name implies. The sword helps with swift movements for attacks, while the shield could guard you from one. The shield also doubles as an attack weapon in scenarios where you need more than one.

Dual Blades – The hunter can use this for rapid attacks. The hunter can also enter demon mode to maximize the damage and archdeacon mode to double the maximum damage.

Hammer:  This weapon promises great movement and could help in blows that could have maximum damage. The hammer can also be used to faint monsters by hitting them on the head.

Hunting Horn – This is not a weapon to attack but to increase the strength of the hunter. This weapon performs melodies to give you that extra strength. To grant special effects in a locale or area, you can also place echo bubbles. Not just that, melodies can also help your allies as well.

Lance –  A weapon for defense. Couple it with thrust attacks for damage and double as a guard from attacks.

Gunlance –  A game-modified RPG, this weapon allows the player to fire explosive shells. This weapon, unlike others, doubles as a guard against even the most powerful of attacks.

Switch Axe – This weapon has two modes. An Axe mode, which you can use to convert it to an Axe weapon for long-range throw attacks. The other is sword mode for closer, swift, and rapid attacks.

Charge Blade – This is Switch Axe on steroids. You can use the Sword Mode for rapid attacks and charge phials to power Axe Mo. This charging can also power other aspects of the weapon.

Insect Glaive – A shooter gamer’s drone. This weapon can be used to control Kinsects. A hunter can also increase their strength by harvesting extracts from monsters.

Light Bowgun – The Light Bowgun can fire different ammo types. This weapon comes with rapid-fire energy to use like a machine gun. The energy replenishes if the attacks hit the target.

Heavy Bowgun – This is a long-range weapon, and spending energy in Ignition Mode allows you to fire different ammo types. With the Auto-Guard function, you can also manually guard incoming attacks.

Bow – A mid-range weapon that allows one to shoot arrows. The bow promises high mobility, and you can charge arrows to increase the damage. Tracer in arrows will enable you to track a monster and home in on it. After a certain or with enough damage, the Tracer can explode as well.

Monster Hunter Wilds Modes – Hunting with a Focus

Apart from the weapons, the game introduces a new Focus mode for better hunting. Using Focus mode, players can now aim attacks or guards and hit wounds for extra damage. The mode also brings special attacks in the game called Focus Strike that can bring additional damage to wounds and weak points.

An SOS mode to help you with the hunt

Bringing realisticness to the new title is the addition of SOS flares. SOS flares can be used after a quest begins, which will enable the player to call three other players to help with the hunt.

Monster Hunter Wilds Monsters – New Monsters are all around, and they are as action-packed as ever.

As we mentioned, the live-action world packed with monsters behaves and adapts like in the real world. Each monster behaves according to the environment and adapts its abilities to offer new challenges.

A forest full of Spiders – Scarlet Forest has Lala Barina, a Temnoceran resembling a spider. This monster has a thorax that opens like a rose in bloom. This monster can bind people in glowing silk-like thread from movement. Lala Barina, with stringers, claws, and legs, can slash and stab opponents.

Plains aren’t safe either – Windward Plains has three monsters and an apex predator adapted to the harsh conditions.

Ray Dau – A dragon-like monster, a Flying Wyvern that’s the apex predator of the Plains. Ray Dau can attack an opponent with lightning generated from its horns. Once the electricity is discharged, the scales of the monster transform into glass shards to enhance the attacks.

Balahara – Balahara is a serpentine capable of making quicksand. This monster can swim through sand and create quicksand traps to trap prey.

Doshaguma – A lion-like monster, these usually hunt and attack in packs. Doshaguma uses brute strength, claws, and paws to attack and create damage. They can also charge with their jaws open to devour hunters. These monsters have the capability of throwing their enemy’s corpses at opponents.

Chattacabra – An amphibious monster resembling that of a frog. This monster has saliva that can stick stones to its forelimbs for attacks.

All these Monster Hunter Wilds new monsters are capable of easily throwing out anyone who comes in their way.

A world like ours, more alive, more responsive

To put it simply, it’s like our world. You walk in a zone that’s lively and full of life; walk further, and the next milestone will be like a harsh desert land where resources are limited. The game introduces two such environments, a story set in the Forbidden Lands, each with its own set of monsters and other elements.

Where the resources are limited and the environment is harsh, monsters will be fighting for survival, and the lively environment will have a more peaceful atmosphere.

Furthermore, as per Capcom, it is set to give an immersive experience for the players, with each step as exciting as it can ever be. Like our world, each area consists of a large group of inhabitants adapting to the environment in their own way.

The players have the option to start a quest, also known as Expeditions, by choosing an objective where the quest begins by targeting a monster in that area.

Monster Hunter Wilds Map – The landscape, an ever-changing ecosystem, and behavior

There are now packs of monsters and small herds in the Forbidden Lands. The ecosystem classifies and adds them to certain places, and to add to the immersiveness, all of them have their unique movements and behaviors.

Windward Plains

The quest starts with the player as a member of the research commission in charge of investigating the Forbidden Lands. The first locale on the journey is the Windward Plains, where the hunt starts. The plains themselves are sandy deserts with rock formations and other scenic wonders.

Scarlet Forest

A certain clue from the Windward Plains leads up to the Scarlet Forest, which is filled with trees and has an abundance of water.

Even superheroes have to eat?

As we mentioned earlier, the Live World in the game is so immersive that you can treat it like any regular world. Each area has its behavior, a new set of challenges, and inhabitants.

And if all the fighting made you hungry, you can cook in the field, too. If you find a cosy place to set up camp, delicious food is available; you have to bring a BBQ Grill. Also, in the game, you can set popup camps in certain areas.

A limited number of these camps can be set up in the game where you can return after you faint, fast travel, and manage items and quests.

Monster Hunter Wilds Release Date – The worldwide release and pre-orders are getting closer

If you can’t hold your excitement after reading all the details, we are in the same boat. However, the official website has stated that there will be a release for the game. Well, it’s not technically a release date as to a release year.

Capcom is set to announce the worldwide release in 2025. Our hunch is that it is going to happen sometime in January 2025, like the previous version. However, we have yet to hear about the Monster Hunter Wilds pre-order dates as they remain a mystery.

Monster Hunter Wilds United States (USA) release will be in February 2025.

UPDATE – Monster Hunter Wilds release date is confirmed for February 28, 2025. Sony’s September 2024 State of Play livestream confirmed the official release date for the game.

Monster Hunter Wilds Price – A new instalment at a slight premium

There hasn’t been any confirmation from Capcom for the price of Hunter World Wilds, but our bet is somewhere under $200. Given the popularity of the series, we would say it’s not too much (others might disagree).

Monster Hunter Wilds Platforms – Making sure Crossplay compatibility

When we heard that the release date was in 2025, we immediately checked what platforms it was going to be available on. It’s not a surprise that the Nintendo Switch has been left out, most likely because of system requirements. But the game will debut on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Steam from 2025.

Interested parties can wishlist the Monster Hunter Wilds on Steam and PlayStation websites as of today.

Monster Hunter Wilds System Requirements – You don’t need all the PC Muscle to play this game

While the details are thin, the new update from the Studio wouldn’t let down the mid-level pc gamer in our recent searches. The minimum system requirements will be as follows:

RAM – 16GB

CPU – Intel Core i3 8the gen or AMD Ryzen of the same category

Storage – 80GB minimum. We suggest 128GB as the updates could take up a lot of space.

OS – Windows 10 or Higher

Monster Hunter Wilds Gameplay – A Gameplay like never before

The recently revealed trailers by Capcom have shown a lot about the game. The protagonist, Hunter, who is the player with the team of helpers, starts their quest in the Windward Plains. The landscape resembles that of a sandy desert with rock formations. The hunt begins here.

We can see from the trailers that the monsters are now responsive to the environment around them. Everyone is fighting for a place in the ecosystem. The team navigates through this harsh land, facing all sorts of challenges.

The ecosystem feels so surreal in the game; the details are just perfect. The quest continues until the team finds the river leading to the Scarlet Forest.

The place is filled with towering trees, and water is abundant. The forest is home to Lala Barina, a spider-like Monster that can attack with its stringers, claws, and legs for maximum damage.

Year 2025 is full of big releases – GTA 6, Crimson Desert and Monster Hunter Wilds.
